I just want to be prepared...

Meet Ms Abigail Chay, a freelance actress, entertainer, and teacher from Singapore.

Recently, Abigail came by a health screening conducted at a Residents' Committee (RC) centre in her neighbourhood. An Advance Care Planning (ACP) Booth was set up there. Abigail spoke to a representative at the ACP booth, who was friendly and comprehensive in explaining what ACP is all about. She was inspired, as she had been hospitalised before and knew there was a need for her to write up her ACP. She made an appointment there and then to have her ACP arrangements written as soon as possible.

She also saw the importance of doing it for the sake of her 92-year-old father, in the event that she is hospitalised in future and cannot make decisions for herself any more. This way, her father need not be stressed making emotionally painful decisions on her behalf. She sees her ACP as a kind of love for her aged father should she meet death.

Abigail has completed her Advance Care Planning since, and also managed to convince her father to do his ACP joyfully and willingly as well.

Today, she is an ambassador for Let's Talk Care, a Singapore-based campaign to raise awareness about Advance Care Planning. The campaign is run by four undergraduates from the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, Nanyang Technological University. (Follow Let's Talk Care on Facebook here.)

Abigail held her live AMA on Thursday, 4 April 2019, at 1:00 p.m. SGT to answer Human reader questions about Advance Care Planning. Read her comments here!
