On the first appointment with Dr Chan, he gave me a brief but comprehensive review on the procedures I was suitable for. I went with ReLEx SMILE in the end as I understand that it has a fast rate of recovery and truth be told, it really was!

In 1 week's time, I went from -5.50 with -1.50 astigmatism to 6/6 in both eyes and there was minimal discomfort. Dr Chan and his staff were really professional and did a great job in calming me down before and during the surgery.

It was a great experience. Dr Chan was friendly and willing to answer any questions that I've had. The process was painless and fast.

Immediately after the procedure, I was able to see quite clearly. It did feel a little cloudy. On the night of the procedure, I was able to watch television and look at the distance easily. On the second day, I can see really far already.

Also, I do not feel that I had dry eyes at all. Very happy that the procedure has gone so well for me! All the staff are friendly too!

My experience with Dr David Chan and the entire staff at Atlas Eye has been well beyond my expectations.

At no point in time did I feel that my questions about the procedure or test results were a bother to Dr Chan. He took his time and even encouraged me to ask as many questions as I wanted.

What stuck out most however, was the fact that he did not try and push a sale, but rather answer objectively and inform me about all the necessary information.

Overall, my only regret was not doing the procedure sooner as the feeling of being able to see clearly without glasses is amazing. A big thank you to Dr Chan and his team!

Dr Chan is a wonderful doctor who is detailed and meticulous. He also instills a sense of confidence in patients as he really knows his stuff.

It is not just for my LASIK, but for my parents' cataract and other eye-surgeries, I observed the same high level of professionalism and care from Dr Chan.

I would also like to commend the wonderful service and care given by his staff - from the frontdesk personnel, those doing the eye-checkups for me and prepping me for the surgery (trying to calm me down and putting me at ease).

They really made the difference for me and I can see that they all work very well together in a team.

I also learnt from his staff that Dr Chan will not anyhow recommend people who are borderline cases or not entirely suitable for LASIK to just go for the surgery. This shows that he is an ethical doctor who puts his patients' well-being and health as the primary interest. Staff giving good feedback of their own boss is also a good sign that Dr Chan is a competent leader.

I feel that this is very important for a clinic to provide holistic care to patients. Overall, I would highly recommend Dr Chan and Atlas Eye. You know that you will be in good hands.

The main reason I decided to do an eye surgery was because I disliked wearing spectacles. I have multiple family members and relatives who have done LASIK and I have already decided that I wanted to do it in the future.

I found Atlas Eye and came here for the evaluation. It costs $19, which is very reasonable even if you decide not to do the surgery after the eye checks. The staff here are very friendly and helpful and made me feel very comfortable here.

I learned that Atlas Eye provides 3 types of eye surgeries, and I decided to go for the most expensive one (ReLEx SMILE) because it has the smallest wound (4mm).

I met Dr Chan, who also made me feel very comfortable. He is not the kind of doctor who just wants to earn your money.

He explained the details of all 3 procedures very clearly and because I was suitable for all 3, he did not try to persuade me to take any procedure and left the choice totally up to me.

On the day of the surgery, I did not feel scared, probably because I felt that I could trust Dr Chan. He is confident and knows what he is doing and I felt safe during the surgery as well.

Now, about 1.5 weeks after the surgery, my eye tests show that I have perfect eyesight. There was no discomfort for me after the surgery and I would highly recommend the ReLEx SMILE procedure here at Atlas Eye.

Singapore has one of the highest rates of myopia in the world, which probably explains why you're interested in this article. The good news for you? LASIK surgery is much cheaper today than it was 10 years ago. However, as evidenced by the number of people searching for "LASIK Singapore price" and "LASIK cost Singapore", it's clear that most people are still utterly confused by the pricing schemes for LASIK.

You’ve thought long and hard about getting LASIK done in Singapore, but don’t know where to start. You're also too lazy to sift through all the information on the internet, or to go for one of those LASIK education seminars.

I don't blame you at all - the range of choices in terms of LASIK procedures, pricing and technologies offered by various eye centres here in Singapore can be bewildering.

Is LASIK still suitable for me if I have dry and sensitive eyes? Will it cause even worse dryness?

Dear Yiling With all things relating to surgery, risks of side effects and complications are important considerations. One known important side effect of LASIK surgery is that of dry eye syndrome. Part of the assessment of whether a person is suitable for LASIK is to look out for signs of pre-exist...

Is ReLEx Smile the best option for dry eyes? Or can I still do LASIK?

Dear YL, The incidence of dry eye indeed has been reported to be lower in ReLEx SMILE than LASIK. A large part of this difference has been attributed to the fact that ReLEx SMILE is a flapless procedure requiring just 2 to 4mm sidecut as compared to LASIK which needs a 22mm sidecut. Hence, ReLEx SM...

How to prevent and remove chalazion?

Should I do LASIK on both eyes at the same time or one eye at a time?

Dear Tong, great question and one in which you may get different answers from different surgeons. What I can share with you is that the vast majority of cases of LASIK procedures are done with both eyes on the same sitting. The fact is that LASIK has got a high safety record and low infection rates...

Are there any implications on undergoing LASIK if I have different eye pressure test results?

Dear Tannn Certainly, having different test results from different centres can be disconcerting to say the least. In most eye clinics, an automated pressure measuring device known as an air-puff tonometry is used as a quick screening tool to check for eye pressure levels. In the event a raised eye ...
