Dr Wong did a very good procedure on me and did good report on 9 Jan 19. He gave me good advice and assurance on my condition
Dr Wong is a caring, attentive and experienced doctor. He has been looking after me since I was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2013. I have been following Dr Wong's advice and been in remission ever since.
I'm glad that I chose to see a private practice doctor rather than waiting for my turn at a public hospital.
I believe this made a huge difference in the good outcome of my condition. Thank you again Dr Wong.
He took such wonderful care and explaining things carefully to ensure that I understood the procedure. He is smart and kind. What a great combination of attributes to have!
I was referred to Dr Nan-Yaw Wong by my GP to surgically treat an inguinal hernia on my right side which had become painful and uncomfortable. At my initial consultation Dr Wong diagnosed a similar hernia, as yet not showing, on my left side - this was confirmed by an ultrasound which had been quickly and efficiently organised by Dr Wong's clinic.
Dr Wong clearly explained the causes and surgical alternatives available and suggested mesh repair for both hernias using laparoscopic surgery. He confidently answered my questions and dealt with my concerns. My surgery was scheduled within a week and went as smoothly as Dr Wong had described it would to me. My recovery was fast and little or no visible scars remain.
The staff at his clinic were helpful and responsive and I found Dr Wong knowledgeable and personable, as well as being an excellent surgeon. He made me feel comfortable that I was making the right decision about the treatment available and was helpful in dealing with the practicalities of dealing with my medical insurers.
Meet Dr Wong Nan-Yaw, an experienced colorectal surgeon who has a deep passion in helping people through their cancer journeys.
He dubs colorectal cancer as the emperor of diseases because it's a silent killer. He explains that the colon is a capacious organ, so it can accommodate a lot of 'things', even big 'things'.
Watch the video to find out more about colon cancer, its symptoms, and how Dr Wong's training helps him to nurse his patients back to good health.
People normally associate colorectal cancers with older people. This is true to a certain degree. 80% of newly diagnosed colorectal cancers are in the above 70 age group. These are what surgeons call sporadic cancers.
For young people in their 30s and 40s, getting struck with colorectal cancer is simply shocking. At the prime of their lives and at the peak of their careers, they are diagnosed with a potentially fatal disease.
I wrote this article to help shed some light on colorectal cancers in young people. I want to explain the cause and characteristics of this cancer, and what you can do to detect the cancer early.
In Singapore, colon cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among both men and women. Did you know that 3 in 100 Singaporeans will develop colorectal cancer in their lifetime?
Unfortunately, many people harbour misconceptions about this dangerous disease. These misconceptions can keep people from accessing the preventive care and treatment they might need.
Join Dr Wong Nan Yaw, an experienced colorectal surgeon as he hosts a QnA where he answers all your questions on colon cancer.
