Dr Andy Wee is a double-fellowship trained senior consultant and orthopaedic surgeon. Prior to him joining the Pinnacle Orthopaedic Group, he was the Head of department for Orthopaedic Surgery at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. He is one of the few Orthopaedic Surgeons in Singapore who has completed 2 prestigious North American fellowships, and is well-versed in Orthopaedic Sports medicine and surgery, as well as Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.
Dr Andy Wee returned in 2012 to work in the department of Orthopaedics, Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, Singapore and subsequently became Head of Department of Orthopaedics in 2013. His subspecialty practice largely revolves around performing Shoulder and Elbow surgery, including fracture fixation, joint reconstruction/replacement and arthroscopic repair/reconstruction, as well arthroscopic sports surgery and management of sports related injuries. He is one of few surgeons who is well-versed in arthroscopy of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle, and has performed over a thousand arthroscopic procedures over the last 7 years.
In the field of shoulder surgery, Dr Andy Wee performs cutting edge techniques such as arthroscopic fixation of acromio-clavicular joint dislocation, and pioneered and popularized the use of intra-medullary device for the fixation of proximal humeral fractures in Singapore since 2014. He is also a leader in the field of elbow surgery in Singapore, and introduced the technique of buttress plating of coronoid fractures of the elbow locally. He has been invited as an international speaker and faculty for many of the regional conferences and courses to share his expertise in the field of shoulder and elbow surgery, including the Depuy-synthes Asia-Pacific Total Shoulder Solutions course in 2014 and 2015, the shoulder and elbow symposium of the Sri Lanka Orthopaedic Association Annual Meeting in 2015, the shoulder Instructional course Lectures during the Malaysian Orthopaedic Association Annual Meeting in 2013, and the AO Upper Extremities Masters Course in 2014.
In the field of arthroscopic sports surgery, Dr Andy Wee has done over 500 anterior cruciate ligament reconstructions alone, and is familiar with recent advances in reconstruction techniques such as the double bundle technique, the anatomical antero-medial portal technique, the ‘all-inside’ reconstruction technique, as well as the antero-lateral ligament reconstruction. He treats various ligament, meniscus and cartilage injuries of the knee, using minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques as well as joint preserving peri-articular osteotomies. He is also well-versed in arthroscopy of the hip, for the treatment of labral and cartilage injuries, as well as hip impingement. Additionally, he also performs ankle and hindfoot arthroscopy for athletic and soft tissue injuries around the ankle. Being a leader in the field of arthroscopic surgery, he provides consultancy and educational services for Smith and Nephew Pte Ltd, a leading company for arthroscopic products, and regularly provides learning opportunities during surgery for visiting surgeons from the region.
