About DxD

DxD enables medical professionals to share their personal insights on an unaffiliated online platform. You can find out more about our contributing experts, who are all doctors with years of experience on this page.

Our goal is to have the most trustworthy and unbiased information in Singapore, so that you can make good decisions about your own health.

Finally, we are all too aware that medical stuff can be pretty dry to digest, so we aim to write all content in the most entertaining (yet accurate) way possible.

FAQs about DxD:

1. Which doctors are invited to participate on DxD?

DxD relies on word of mouth recommendations from fellow doctors to identify specialists in each field. We then meet with each doctor in person.

Yes, it's time-consuming, but besides expertise, we think it's important that the doctor is friendly and enthusiastic about raising the level of healthcare awareness in Singapore.

2. Why did we start a free QnA?

People who don't know a doctor friend are disadvantaged in engaging with healthcare. The QnA addresses this by enabling doctors to share expert opinions directly with you.

Every question is also opened up to a range of doctors and specialities to answer, so you don't get a "one-sided view".

Don't just take our word for it. We strongly encourage you to do your own research, and to read up on other health sites. It's important that everyone takes responsibility for their own health.

3. Is the QnA sustainable if it's free?

Frankly, we don't know. The platform will always be free, because that's the reason it was set up - to help people.

Doctors who contribute do so to share their knowledge and experience. They are never paid or reimbursed for their answers. If you've benefitted, you can show your thanks by spreading the word to others who may benefit as well.

4. How to ask a good question on DxD

DxD's QnA lets doctors provide definitive, expert answers to important health questions.

The goal for each question on DxD is that it becomes the best resource for anyone else looking for the answer to that question.

Questions should be clearly written

The question must be clear from the question title itself; it should not depend on the question details. Question details should make clear how answers can meet their expectations.

Questions should be grammatical

DxD requires correct spelling, punctuation, grammar and capitalization to be used in questions. A question should consist of complete sentence(s) and end in a question mark.

Questions should be concise.

As a general guideline, questions should be no longer than 2 sentences, and only 1 question should be asked at a time. If you want to ask more than 1 question, submit them separately.

Questions should comply with DxD site policies

Medical questions that contain patient-specific facts are not allowed, and may be deleted or reworded to describe a general situation.

Questions may be deleted by moderators if they contravene policy. A question can be merged into another question if both ask the same thing.

Adhering to these guidelines will ensure that:

1. Your question is approved.
2. You get better answers from doctors.
3. Your question is answered more quickly - good questions are usually answered within hours because DxD moderators queue them to be answered first.

5. How to use the QnA correctly (please read!)

To prevent the QnA from being shuttered, you can help by using it responsibly:

DO NOT take any answers for medical advice.

DO NOT treat it as a doctor consultation - it will never replace a face-to-face doctor consult and examination, for obvious reasons.

DO NOT use it in an urgent medical situation. Go and see your doctor.

To ask a question:

  1. Register for a free account, so that you'll be notified when a doctor answers.
  2. Do not include any personal identifiable information in your question - the QnA is publicly visible.
  3. Doctors will usually reply within 24 - 48 hours. More opinions will continue to be added on, so you can check back later.

This Singapore-Based Clinical Dietician With A PhD Gives You The Low Down On Fad Diets

Modern-day diet trends seem to have taken hold as people look for ways to better manage their lifestyles in this strange, fastpaced world of ours.

Low-fat, low-carb, keto, paleo, detox, and vegan diets are just some of the words that float around in the news, online and that flow out of the mouths of celebrity gurus.

Understandably, trying to figure out which ones work and which ones don’t (or which ones are suitable for you) can all get a little confusing (and overwhelming), to say the least.

Dr Naras Lapsys is a clinical dietician with more than 14 years of experience (as well as 10 years of research on diabetes and obesity). He’s helped people address dietary patterns, sleep, exercise and well-being.

He shared some tips on DxD and weighed in on common fad diets. Here's what he had to say.
