Overview

Dr Fong Yang, an accredited Ministry of Health IVF clinician, has been practicing Obstetrics and Gynaecology for the past 18 years. He received his medical degree from the National University of Singapore in 1990, and went on for further specialisation training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists. Dr Fong was admitted to the Fellow of Academy of Medicine, Singapore in 2000.

He is also one of the rare few IVF clinicians who treat both male and female infertility. He was the first in Singapore to perform percutaneous sperm aspiration for men – a procedure to overcome a condition whereby sperm cannot be produced due to obstruction of the sperm ducts.

Prior to setting up his private practice in 2002, Dr Fong was a consultant at Singapore General Hospital and Changi General Hospital, where he served in the O & G and Andrology clinics.

Dr Fong was also active in the Centre for Assisted Reproduction in SGH and in their In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) programmes. Currently, he also performs Intra-Uterine Insemination (IUI) for women as part of their fertility treatment.

Besides male and female infertility, Dr Fong also keenly manages recurrent and early pregnancy loss or miscarriages.

Dr Fong is very passionate about his field of specialisation and often shares his expertise at local and international forums. He is also an avid contributor to numerous magazines, newspapers, and makes media appearances to educate and increase awareness of male and female fertility issues.

He is effectively bilingual in English and Mandarin, and also conversant in Hokkien and Teochew.

Ask Dr Fong Yang: Fertility (IVF & IUI)

Most of the time, people don't know that they have fertility problems until they are trying to have a baby because there are often no symptoms for infertility. Men and women are equally at risk for fertility problems.

Find out more about the treatment methods used to solve fertility problems in men and women from an experienced gynaecologist, Dr Fong Yang. He is hosting a QnA session where he answers all your questions on IVF and IUI.

Ask Dr Fong about:

  • How to choose between IVF and IUI
  • Factors to consider before deciding on fertility treatments
  • Cost of IVF in Singapore
  • Success rate of IVF in Singapore
  • Health risks of IVF to child and the mother
  • Causes of failures in IVF

Hi, Clots during your menstrual period suggest that your menstrual flow is heavy, which allows for blood to pool in the uterus and form clots. These clots are then expelled, usually with the help of uterine contractions, and are commonly associated with menstrual cramps. ...

Hi, In general it is best to avoid alcohol if you are breastfeeding. However, if you have to drink some (because your confinement lady or mother-in-law is nagging you to death!), then take just a little bit after you have breastfed. This way, most of the alcohol w...

Hi, thanks for the D2D. Both methods can be effective, but a lot depends on your medical condition and the causes of your subfertility in the first place. IUI is relatively simple, less invasive, less costly and less time-consuming, but the success rates are lower. Certain ex...
