About Dr Chew Huck Chin

Professional Background

Before working as a consultant respiratory physician and intensivist at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Dr Chew Huck Chin was a consultant at the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine at Singapore General Hospital (SGH). Presently, he is both Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School and Clinical Senior Lecturer with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore (NUS). 

Educational Background

In 1999, Dr Chew obtained his basic medical degree from NUS. In 2003, he went on to attain the Master of Medicine (Emergency Medicine) and the MRCS(Edin). He continued his specialty training in Emergency Medicine at SGH. He went on to achieve his Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) and the MRCP(UK) the next year with a second dual specialty training in Respiratory Medicine as well as Intensive Care Medicine at SGH.

  • Treasurer and executive committee member for the Society of Emergency Medicine, Singapore 2004-2006
  • Treasurer for the Society of Intensive Care Medicine, Singapore, SgANZICS conference 2012-2013. 
  • Pro-Tem Committee and Clinical Service Planning Committee from 2011 – 2013 at Sengkang General Hospital
  • Supervisor of the Respiratory Therapy Department, Singapore General Hospital from 2012-2013, and has a keen interest in the advancing technology of non-invasive ventilation.

Special Interests

On top of general respiratory medicine, Dr Chew has special expertise in Intensive Care Medicine, non-invasive ventilation, bronchoscopy, advanced ventilator support including extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation, airway pressure release ventilation, high-frequency oscillatory ventilation and advanced bronchoscopic techniques such as endobronchial ultrasound guided transbronchial needle aspiration.
