Overview

Dr Jaclyn Toh Ai Lin qualified with honours from the prestigious Dublin Dental School and Hospital of Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. She is a member of the Singapore Dental Association, the College of General Dental Practitioners Singapore and the Aesthetic Dentistry Society of Singapore.

Dr Toh brings an eye for detail and a gentle touch to her work. She encourages her patients to take responsibility for their oral health and helps them customise positive lifestyle choices. She is passionate about bringing the best of the latest research into clinical practice through continuing clinical education.

Dr Toh advocates minimally-invasive and biomimetic dentistry following the Style Italiano philosophy, based on her experiences as a clinician and also as a patient.

She is passionate about endodontics (treatment of the root canals and pulpal disease) as an important part of her general practice of maintaining natural teeth where possible.

Dr Toh is a certified Invisalign provider, and has a special interest in combining restorative cosmetic dentistry with orthodontics. She also practices interceptive orthodontics for children. Early identification and treatment prevents severe skeletal or dental problems from becoming permanent, and needing surgery to correct in adulthood.

In her spare time, Dr Toh enjoys an active lifestyle. She enjoys early morning gym sessions and regular ballet classes.

Invisalign was recommended to me by Dr Toh because of a severe open bite. My treatment took less than a year. Dr Toh was very good at explaining the entire process and would always answer in great detail any question however silly. I experienced very minimum discomfort and I enjoyed the fact that ...

Crown lengthening is usually required to increase the amount of tooth structure available for a crown to grip on to firmly. This is usually done when the tooth has a short clinical crown (usually 2nd molars) to begin with, has been extensively damaged by decay or fractured due to ...

The good news is most dental procedures can be done safely while breastfeeding. Most dental materials do not absorb into the bloodstream in significant amounts. You may wish to avoid getting new amalgam fillings placed or having old amalgam fillings removed during this time sinc...

Dear Low Chew, Closing the gap using braces/Invisalign means that you will not have an artificial tooth replacement to contend with in the future. However, depending on the location of the missing tooth (front tooth/back tooth) and also the symmetry of your smile, and how you bite, this may ...

Dear Hui Jun, With a compliant patient , space closure with clear aligners is quite successful. Aligners need to be worn for at least 20-22 hours daily for sufficient forces to be applied on to the teeth for space closure. Below is a case with spacing in the lower front tee...

Dear Shayne, I do not consider mouthwash an essential for a general audience for this reason: most mouthwashes DO NOT have the abililty to break up and remove plaque from the surfaces of the teeth. The fundamental principle for oral home care is still thorough plaque remov...

Dear Maryann, Your upper front teeth appear to be straight but the edges are not even. This may give rise to the perception that the teeth are not straight EVEN if the root axes (how the roots appear on xray, and correctly placed braces will tend to make the roots of your teeth parallel) have bee...

Dear Lunaru, Extraction of premolars generally gives the most amount of space for correction of crowding. Whether this is needed will depend on how much space is needed . Space is required for straightening the teeth, leveling the bite, midline correction and to reduce protrusio...

Dear Yen Lim, As you have said, Zenyum is a very new clear aligner company. There is very little background information on the official website regarding the technology used for their treatment planning and aligner manufacturing. Zenyum appears to be a collaboration between local...

Dear Elizabeth, I agree with your dentist that your son should be using a fluoridated toothpaste to help with your decay prevention efforts. There are specially formulated children's toothpastes with different levels of fluoride depending on age group. A good example is Elgydium. To minimize th...

Dear Someshrathi, The short answer is that crowns that are defective are usually replaced. This is mainly because of the way a crown is made that is very different from a filling. A crown is made up of a thin layer of either metal, ceramic or a combination of both materials that encircles the toot...

Dear Sighpie, The 2nd picture of your braces is not as clear as your pre-treatment photo so I will have to make some assumptions. In your pre-treatment photo, it appears there is some minor crowding of the upper teeth. Your lower teeth are not visible. The lower (front) teeth may have started to...

Dear Watermelonmoly, Invisalign or braces can definitely realign your teeth to fix the crowding in your upper and lower jaws. As for your bite, I suspect the photos have you posturing out of your natural bite pattern (note the gaps between your upper and lower back teeth) so it is impossible to ...

Hi Zara, A tooth may become discoloured for reasons other than a dead/infected nerve. After a traumatic injury, the nerve (which is still alive) may lay down scar tissue internally, causing the tooth to become more yellow over time. Other causes of discolouration include ext...
