About Dr Kenneth Tan

Thanks to ample experience in several fields of dentistry, Dr Tan is a versatile dentist whose skills benefit patients throughout Singapore. Dr Tan has a clinical interest in cosmetic dentistry and smile makeovers, and he enjoys correcting malocclusions with the use of modern methods such as Invisalign. In fact, during 2014, Dr Tan received the distinguished status of Platinum provider with Invisalign. His status rose to Platinum Elite Invisalign Provider in 2015, after he successfully treated over 81 patients with Invisalign in one year.

In 2016, he was again awarded for being a Platinum provider with Invisalign. A strong belief in the old saying that “prevention is better than a cure” inspired Dr Tan to spearhead the Minimal Intervention Program at the National Dental Center, with the help of other pioneering dentists. He ensures that his patients are always fully informed before he begins any type of treatment. In 2006, Dr. Tan participated in the University of North Carolina’s student exchange program in the United States. The following year, Dr Tan received his Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the National University of Singapore. He served at the National Dental Centre for a time, as well as teaching Nitec in Dental Assisting for groups of dental assistants.

His career repertoire includes serving as a committee member for the International Dental Exhibition Meet in 2006 and 2008, plus a stint as a committee member at the FDI Annual World Dental Congress in 2009. Dr Tan continues to boost his effectiveness as a holistic dentist by expanding his knowledge and training through courses overseas and in Singapore. Currently, Dr Tan holds membership in the Singapore Dental Association. In 2007, he functioned as a core member in the ethics department, and during the two following years, he served an important role in the area of oral health awareness. His memberships in the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, the College of General Dental Practitioners in Singapore, and the Aesthetic Dentistry Society of Singapore allow him to extend his positive influence for the oral health of Singapore residents.

How do I encourage my three-year-old kid to brush his teeth if he hates brushing?

Hi there! I can truly empathize with this struggle, being a father of 2 toddlers. I normally do advise parents that inculcating the habit of brushing starts as early as when they are a newborn. Introducing them a towel or a gauze to clean the bony ridges daily even before the teeth erupts. This is to have them understand that it is a routine for us to clean our oral cavity. Now that your son is 3 and past that stage. It will involve much reasoning. Find out why he hates brushing. Also try to make teeth brushing fun.

Does tooth decay in baby teeth affect adult teeth?

Hi there, It really depends on how bad the decay is. If it is fairly superficial, the dentist can fix it and retard the decay activity thus salvaging the tooth without any impact on her adult tooth that will be replacing it in the future. However, if there is a very deep decay, resulting in an infection of the soft tissue and the underlying tissues of the baby tooth, there is a chance that the adult may be affected since it is lying in fairly close proximity. If this is so, removing the infection is ideally the best way to minimize any bad effects on its adult tooth.

When do I need to use chewies for Invisalign?

Hi there! Chewies are meant for you to bite whenever the aligners are placed back on your teeth. This is to allow better seating of the aligners to your teeth thus moving them in a more predictable and effective fashion. Chewies benefit most Invisalign patients. Do talk to your dentist regarding it. Hope this helps.
