Overview

Dr. Lim Hwee Yong is a medical oncologist with Novena Cancer Centre and a visiting consultant medical oncologist with the National Cancer Centre in Singapore. He provides specialist care for cancer patients at Mount Elizabeth Novena Cancer Centre. Dr. Lim received his medical doctor degree from University College Dublin, the National University of Ireland.

He completed his postgraduate training in Internal Medicine at the University of Hawaii and Hematology and Medical Oncology training at the Huntsman Cancer Institute, University of Utah. Dr. Lim currently holds the American Board Certification for Internal Medicine, Hematology and Medical Oncology. Upon returning to Singapore in 2010, Dr. Lim joined the National Cancer Centre of Singapore as a consultant medical oncologist and was a visiting oncologist to Changi General Hospital, Singapore.

He actively participates in important research involving gastrointestinal and hepato-biliary cancers as well as neuroendocrine tumor research. He was also part of the peptide receptor radionuclide therapy workgroup that helped to establish a new form of treatment for neuroendocrine tumors in Singapore. While in the National Cancer Centre Singapore, he chaired the blood transfusion committee and is currently a member of the clinical trials steering committee. He was also the principle investigator of multiple research projects including multiple projects that were awarded grant funding from the prestigious National Medical Research Council of Singapore.

Dr. Lim is actively involved in the education of doctors, medical students and nurses. He is also a member of the Medical Oncology Residency Advisory Board that reviews and advises on medical oncology training structure and serves as an examiner for medical oncologist trainee exit exams. He has been published in international journals, authored book chapters and served as an editor for the book Neuroendocrine Tumors. He is a teacher to medical students from Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore and Duke-National University of Singapore - in addition to oncology and palliative care nurses.

Dr. Lim was the President of the Singapore Society of Oncology from 2012 to 2013. He is a founding member of the Singapore Hepatopancreatobiliary Association. Dr. Lim is also a member of American Society of Clinical Oncologists, American Society of Hematology, American Medical Association, American College of Physicians, European Society of Medical Oncologist and Singapore Medical Association.
