Overview

Dr Razmi Rahmat is a practicing orthopaedic consultant at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital and Parkway East Hospital. His special interests are in managing all forms of spinal conditions, arthritis, general orthopaedics, osteoporosis and trauma surgery.

Dr Razmi completed his postgraduate degree in 1996. He received MOH scholarships to further his surgical skills development in basic surgery and orthopaedic surgery. He was subsequently awarded a clinical fellowship at the Spinal Unit, Department of Orthopaedic and Trauma, Royal Adelaide Hospital in Adelaide, Australia to develop spine surgery in Alexandra Hospital.

He has published his works at several reputable peer reviewed spine journals. He has also presented at many international meetings. He is a member of the AOSpine International, an association dedicated in improving spine patient surgical outcomes and ensuring cost effective spine surgery.

Dr Razmi performs, routinely, discectomy (minimally invasive surgery), decompression surgery, spinal fusion, motion preservation surgery including dynamic stabilization and dynamic fusion technologies and lumbar and cervical disc replacements. He is the first surgeon in Singapore to perform stand alone anterior approached spine fusion using the Synfix implant. Dr Razmi also frequently lectures in courses on spine surgery both locally and regionally. He also frequently conducts courses for General Practitioners both in the local as well as in the region.

In 2003, he was selected to represent Singapore in the Junior ASEAN Orthopaedic Travelling Fellowship. He spent a month travelling around the ASEAN region to share as well as learn with the leading surgeons in the region.

Despite his busy schedule, Dr Razmi makes time for voluntary work. He provided for medical coverage for Singapore Haj pilgrims in 1991, 1992, 1994 and 2000.

His current research interests are in repair and regeneration of diseased spinal discs using autologous chondrocytes transplantation. He has collaborated with the Adelaide Centre for Spinal Research for this work.
