Apart from running his private practices at Gleneagles and Mount Elizabeth Hospitals, Dr Shankar holds a position as a Senior Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at National Heart Centre. He previously practised at various UK hospitals, including Walsgrave Hospital (Coventry), Middlesex Hospital (London), Royal Brompton Hospital (London), John Radcliffe Hospital (Oxford), and Harefield Hospital (London).
Dr Shankar has helped establish the Paediatric Cardiothoracic service at the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, where he was the Head of services till March 2009. Dr Shankar has had extensive experience with Adult Cardiac Surgery, having performed over 1000 off-pump procedures for patients with Coronary Artery Disease. He is trained to undertake Valve restorative operations for both Children & Adults, with vast experience in both. He has had excellent results with patients with aortic disease, especially aneurysm surgery and surgery for acute type 1 aortic dissection.
Dr Shakar is active in writing and publishing several articles. His interests include adult cardiothoracic surgery, adult vascular surgery, paediatric cardiothoracic surgery and paediatric vascular surgery.
