About Dr Tan Chi Chiu

Dr Tan Chi Chiu is a specialist in Gastroenterology and Hepatology who has over 37 years of experience as a doctor and 27 years of experience as a specialist. He graduated from the national university of Singapore in 1983, followed by his specialist training in Internal Medicine and obtained his Memberships of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom and Ireland, as well as his Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine in 1988. Dr Tan was accorded the Fellowship of the Academy of Medicine in Gastroenterology in 1993 and recognised by the Ministry of Health as a specialist in Gastroenterology in 1993. He has further conferred the Fellowships of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of Edinburgh and London in 1996 and 1998 respectively.

Dr Tan trained at the Singapore General Hospital and National University Hospital in Singapore and spent two years in the United Kingdom (affiliated to the University of Nottingham) as an advanced specialist trainee in therapeutic endoscopy and laser endoscopy. He was also attached to the Endoscopy Department of the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam for enhanced exposure to techniques of Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio-Pancreatography (ERCP).

Dr Tan was appointed Consultant in Gastroenterology and Medicine in the Department of General Medicine at Tan Tock Seng Hospital in 1995, where he went on to found and head the Gastroenterology Unit. He was also Chairman of the Endoscopy Committee of the hospital.

He is currently Gastroenterologist and the Senior Consultant of his practice at Gastroenterology and Medicine International Pte Ltd in Gleneagles Medical Centre. He is a member of the Medical
Advisory Board of Gleneagles Hospital and Chairman of the Endoscopy Committee.

Aside from being a specialist, Dr Tan is also an active and well-known figure in the youth development and community service scene in Singapore. He is currently Chairman of the Board of the Lien Centre for Social Innovation at Singapore Management University. He has been involved in numerous overseas humanitarian, scientific and community aid expeditions and projects to countries such as Indonesia, Philippines, Pakistan, India, Nepal Haiti, Laos, India, Mongolia and Chile with numerous Singapore and international civilian and military awards for his work.
