Tonsillectomy & Adenoidectomy

I've been getting recurring tonsilitis every couple of weeks and after much discussion with my ENT, I decided that it was time for a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy. No amount of antibiotics and gargling have helped prevent tonsilitis and I'm so tired of having this throat pain.

I am really NERVOUS about the surgery and I know it's going to be a long road to recovery.

Do share your tonsillectomy/ adenoidectomy road to recovery stories - I'm sure that the decision to have either procedure isn't an easy one and I'd really appreciate any kind of advice!

My 2 year old girl is going to remove her Tonsils & Adenoids, can anyone share their experience with me?

We are in dilemma wherher to go for the surgery or not? Like is she too young, the effect of GA, the most important, the pain after the surgery?

My daughter (2years 9months) will go to surgery end of this month due to ear infection.doctor will also remove her adenoids and check her tonsil.

At first We didnt want her to go for surgery, but hearing problem will affect speech and learning.so We decide to go for surgery.as for GA,I red about the risks of GA,etc but the ENT doctor assure me that he'll oversee the anesthesian and he give one of the best paediatric anethesian (senior and experienced).

Last thing is we just pray that the operation will go smooth.

I had brought my daughter for a 2nd opinion @ Mount E. The specialist said there will not be any improvement 6 months down the road. Even medication will not help much in reducing on the sizes so we will be letting her to go for the surgery.

Last nite, i also checked with our GP, she said its better to go earlier since these "things" are causing the blockage. & the GA will be just fine.

My friend had his removed and the doctor/nurses told him to eat lots of ice cream... it cools his throat and reduces swelling... also gets some dairy into his system. Cold fluids would also help I guess.

Take care and enjoy the time off work Milo!

I also want to know. Anyone here has experienced tonsillectomy? Is it a day surgery and can work the next moment?

Thank you.

u will be most likely to be admitted for about 2 days of anti-biotic treatment post surgery. it is not a day-surgery op.

U will be given 5 -7 days hospitalisation leave as u may hv difficult swallowing properly for the fisrt 24-48 hours depending on the intensity / difficulty of the op (or depening how severe is your tonsils)..

once u are able to swallow fluids u can go home... gradually increase to puree / soft food.

after 1 week, then u start solid food.

No acidic / spicy / too oily food for the first week.
