What are my chances of being accepted/shortlisted for NUS Dentistry?

Hey, I'm a third-year student from Singapore Polytechnic about to graduate in February next month. It would be great if someone would be able to help in answering my question. To give a more in-depth information of myself: I graduated from secondary school with an N-Level certificate. I did not take O-Levels as I qualified for Polytechnic Foundation Year and decided to pursue that instead. It's not an easy task as only the top 10% of each cohort qualifies. I managed to top the school and scored 6 points for my EMB3 - E Maths (A1), English (A2), Combined Science - Biology/Chemistry (A1), Combined Humanities - Geog/Social Studies (A1) and Food and Nutrition (A1). Will they even consider me if I don't have an O-Level certificate? Upon completion of my secondary school I got enrolled into Singapore Polytechnic's Diploma in Biotechnology. I have yet to receive my five semester results but I am sure that upon graduation, my final cumulative GPA will range between 3.610 - 3.615. I have done ample amount of community service, was a President for student council, undertook final-year project as well as done a 10-week overseas internship at University of Manchester, Division of Dentistry - decided to do so as I was interested in the research performed and would be a good point to include in my CV or something. Hopefully, by this sentence you would be able to get the gist of my situation and I would be more than thrilled if someone would be willing to answer my queries (and some mini questions I've sneakily placed in). Is there even a chance for me to be accepted considering my rather low cGPA? I do believe that I have strong leadership qualities and a strong passion for Dentistry. That's all I have for now. Thanks!

Hi there, anyone with a strong passion in anything should definitely apply. I'd say the best thing to do in your shoes would be to speak to other dental students and find out what life is like. CV, academic grades etc, while a door-opener, are not the be all and end all of being a doctor/dentist in Singapore. Your interviewing committee will be more interested in your personality, character and reasons for pursuing dentistry.

Given my ‘A’ level results, what are my chances of being shortlisted for Dentistry?

No one can predict the cut-off point; it depends on the competition of the pool of applicants each year. NUS does not release the cut-off points from previous years.

I am from a foreign country. How do I find the Cambridge 'A' levels equivalent of my country’s examinations?

Is TOEFL/SAT I a requirement?

shelltheses

With effect from 2006, TOEFL/SAT I scores are no longer considered for computation of the University Score for applicants presenting the Singapore-Cambridge GCE ‘A level results. However, applicants must still fulfill the requirements for General Paper and Mother Tongue Language.

On the other hand, applicants presenting certain high school qualifications may be required to submit additional test scores.

Is there a fixed number of vacancies available each year?

From 2018, the enrolment to Dentistry will be increased to 60 students per academic year.
