I just want to be prepared...

Meet Dr Wong Nan-Yaw, an experienced colorectal surgeon who has a deep passion in helping people through their cancer journeys.

Back in the 90s, there was a visionary doctor (Dr Goh Hak Su) who foresaw that colorectal diseases were going to be a big problem in Singapore. Dr Wong got interested and decided to seize this opportunity to develop and hone his skills through extensive training.

True enough, colorectal cancer is the number one cancer in Singapore right now. He is glad that he is trained in this field and has the ability to help patients suffering from problems relating to their colons.

He dubs colorectal cancer as the emperor of diseases because it's a silent killer. He explains that the colon is a capacious organ, so it can accommodate a lot of 'things', even big 'things'.

During the early stages of cancer, the tumor is very small, literally, about one centimetre. Therefore, it is silent because it's symptom free. By the time it manifests, it's almost always too late because the tumor would have grown really big.

Watch the video to find out more about colon cancer, its symptoms, and how Dr Wong's training helps him to nurse his patients back to good health.
