Single Vision Lens Vs. Myopia Control Lens

So you’re looking to get myopia control lenses but are not sure why you should make the switch from the traditional single vision lenses. Well, here are 4 reasons why you should jump on board this new technology!

1. They can help curb myopia progression

Myopia control lenses help curb myopia progression as compared to single vision lenses.

One example of such lenses is MiYOSMART. MiYOSMART uses D.I.M.S. technology (Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segments Technology) to slow down myopia progression [1].

The success rate of myopia control lenses goes up to an average of 59% of children by controlling the growth of the eye.

Axial growth rates slowed by an average of 60% when myopia management lenses are used.

It does this through a central optical zone that corrects light refraction.

2. They may help to reduce fatigue in the eyes

Wearing spectacle lenses may help to reduce stress and fatigue associated with the development of near-sightedness in the eyes. When trying to focus on objects, your crystalline lens changes in shape to alter the focal length of your vision.

As myopia develops, the extent in which your eye structure changes to allow your vision to focus increases [2]. This constant change in eye structure would increase the amount of stress placed on your eyeballs and the eventual fatigue that follows.

With myopia control lenses being adequately corrected for your refractive error, it provides clear vision as well as simultaneous control of myopia progression. Any unnecessary strain on your eyes may be reduced.

3. Early use can reduce the risk of eye diseases

Using myopia control lenses at an early age could reduce the risk of the development of eye diseases later in life. More accurately, the slow down in myopia progression using myopia control lenses plays an important role in reducing the risk of eye diseases.

High levels of myopia can increase the chances of you experiencing [2]:

  • Cataracts
  • Glaucoma
  • Retinal detachment
  • Myopic macular degeneration

If you start using myopia control lenses in the early stages of your life, you may save yourself from irreversible vision loss!

4. They may help control eye elongation

When looking at objects near you with single vision lenses, the image is focused behind your retina.

Your eyeballs would then elongate to compensate for the strain on near vision, to allow your vision to focus on the objects near you.

This constant elongation of the eyeballs may eventually lead to myopia evolution.

While single vision lenses do not help with the management of eye elongation, myopia control lenses may help to control it!

Myopia control lenses help control the elongation of your eyeballs, which would relate to myopia progression being controlled [3].
