What are the advantages of FDA-approved dermal fillers?

Doctor's Answers 1

The term "FDA" is usually associated with the US regulatory Food and Drug Administration.

Dermal fillers (also known as injectable implants), soft tissue fillers, or wrinkle fillers are classified as medical device implants by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in helping to create a smoother or fuller appearance in the face, including nasolabial folds, cheeks, and lips, and for increasing the volume of the back of the hands.

The majority of such fillers are classified as temporary as they are biodegradable and biocompatible, with hyaluronic acid being the most common type.

The main advantages of these FDA-approved fillers is that they usually have a good safety profile as well as proven effectiveness. This is because the FDA has a rigorous system in place that ensures that such devices have undergone clinical trials with good safety and effectiveness records.

In Singapore, the major brands that are FDA approved and registered with the local Health Sciences Authority are Restylane, Juvederm, Belotero, Teosyal, and Radiesse.

How long does bruising last for after dermal fillers?

Hello CS Thank you for your question. Bruising can happen after filler injections and will typically subside in 1 to 2 weeks. You can also consider arnica gel/ tablets to help with your recovery. Personally I will avoid the following to reduce the risk of bruising: NSAIDs Supplements (Vit E/ Omega 3 Fatty Acids/ Ginko/ Garlic) Alcohol Heat related activities Intense exercise Do let your doctor know if there is significant bruising. It will also be helpful if you can show a picture of the bruises. Hope this helps!
