After a Picosure session, are there any medications or creams I should avoid?

Doctor's Answers 1

After Picosure laser treatment, the skin might be a little sensitive for several days, so avoid any acidic creams and tretinoin until the sensitivity phase subsides. This also applies to vigorous facial cleansing, scrubbing and facial treatments.

Do start using sunscreen and practice sun protection immediately after the laser treatment.

There is no need to avoid any oral medication.

How does cysteamine and other lightening creams work for melasma?

Melasma is caused by excessive melanin (coloured skin pigment) in the upper layer of the skin (epidermal melasma) and the deeper layer of the skin (mixed melasma). The answer to your question therefore requires a brief discussion on how melanin is formed. Melanin is produced by specialised pigment producing cells in the lower layer of the epidermis called melanocytes. The production of melanin involves a series of enzyme-catalyzed chemical reactions. The raw product for melanin production is L-tyrosine. The first step of melanin production is the conversion of L-tyrosine to L-DOPA.

What are the best creams to remove PIH for acne prone skin?

Hi, PIH will gradually resolve on its own even without any treatment. So waiting for spontaneous resolution is an option to consider. If using a lightening cream to hasten resolution of PIH in acne-prone skin, choose a product with proven skin lightening ingredients (discussed in detail in other parts of this forum), avoid greasy composition and avoid steroids in the cream which may potentially aggravate acne. Tretinoin cream may be a good first line option as not only does it possess lightening properties, it also possesses anti-acne properties. Hope this helps!
