Are the results of an STD test revealed to anyone?

Doctor's Answers 2

Under the Infectious Diseases Act in Singapore, certain STIs, such as syphilis, gonorrhoea, and herpes requires notification to MOH.

However, only basic information such as:

  • Age
  • Gender
  • Nationality

is reported. This helps to prevent the spread of infectious disease.

Details such as your name, date of birth, and address are not required, and therefore not reported to the Ministry of Health.

However, there's an exception for HIV infection or AIDS. In this scenario, the additional identifying details are required to be submitted as well.

All results are kept private & confidential between a patient and doctor. It will not be shared with anyone without the patient’s permission.

However, a positive HIV test needs to be notified to MOH under the Infectious Diseases Act.

Do I still need to go for HIV screening if my STD screening test is non-reactive?

Dr Theng has given a wonderful answer. Oral sex is generally considered safe but there is a low risk of transmission if there are some open wounds which may not be obvious.
