Are there any good alternatives to Tretinoin and Retinol if it is unsuitable for my skin?

Doctor's Answers 1

Hi,

There are a few strategies you can consider:

1) Use a simple base moisturiser before application to reduce skin irritation.

2) Reduce contact time of Tretinoin on your skin. Wash off after a short duration of time e.g. after 30-60mins and then apply a simple moisturizer on the skin.

3) Consider using an alternative retinoid such as adapalene cream which is less irritating compared to Tretinoin cream.

4) Consider an alternative non-retinoid anti-ageing cream such as low concentration vitamin C.

Hope some of these suggestions work for you!

Does tretinoin cream help to reduce syringomas below my eyes?

Yes it does! Some people choose tretinoin cream, some choose adalapene, but both have good effects on syringomas (as a maintenance). But the serious ones should first be treated with ablative lasers, maintained with the creams, and avoid particularly heavy products over the prone areas.

How can I prevent persistent closed comedones that keep recurring?

It is great that you are using non-comedogenic products! Do take note, though, that no product is 100% safe, so the key is also not to apply makeup/cosmetics/skin care products excessively. Comedones form when our skin cells lining the sebaceous ducts proliferate abnormally. Combined with the increased sebum production that is common in acne-prone skin and some skin debris such as cosmetic residue, these debris can block the sebaceous duct and result in a comedo.
