Are there any methods to prevent or slow down premature grey hair?

Doctor's Answers 1

Hi,

This is one area that causes many sufferers much distress for which medical advances still does not have a solution to.

A majority of premature hair greying lies in the inability to make or transfer pigment from the skin cells to the hair shaft. Genetics play a major role. Stress, smoking and vitamin deficiencies have also been implicated as aggravating factors but their roles are less certain compared to genetic factors.

There is currently no scientifically proven treatment or method to slow down or prevent this most distressing process.

Internet is abound with nutritional causes and advocates home remedies and nutritional supplementation but these are not proven.

I suppose minimizing stress, smoking and having a healthy balanced diet is the best you can do as far as prevention is concerned.

Hope this helps!

How is a chemical burn due to hair removal cream treated?

Hi,Chemical burn injury, as with all other forms of skin injury, will heal best under optimum wound healing conditions to minimize the risk of scarring. This usually means that the healing environment must be clean and moisture-controlled. Careful attention to wound cleansing and the use of an antiseptic cream/ointment or silver impregnated non-stick dressings are recommended. Scarring may occur if the wound is deep or if it gets infected. Hope this helps!
