Can a pimple turn into a mole?

Acne & Scars Skin, Hair & Nails

Hi. I had a slightly raised pimple that looked like it was about to heal. I pretty much left it alone since the pimple came along, and I did not apply any acne medication nor did I pop it. I wanted to let it heal on its own. However, to my horror, I just discovered the pimple actually sort of turned black and it seemed like a small raised mole instead. Can someone please enlighten me on what has happened? It’s so frustrating and now I’m concerned if it might be skin cancer. 😔

DOCTOR’S ANSWER (2)

agree with Dr Chua. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or even a granuloma (a small raised lump due to trauma or pimple picking) seems more likely diagnosis.

But do get it checked out by your doctor.

There are a few possibilities. It could have been a mole right from the start, or else a pimple that has turned dark (blood clot/post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation).

Acne do not turn into moles. I would recommend to consult a doctor/dermatologist to decide if further tests are needed before removal.

Hope this helps!
