Can fillers completely get rid of dark eye circles?

Doctor's Answer

Thank you for the question. Dark eye circles are due to a combination of skin pigment, veins under the skin, and hollowness of the cheek under the eye. We see many patients coming to us to troubleshoot hollowness under the eyes, giving a tired appearance. We use a combination of skin fillers to support the bony framework of the cheek and to fill up the sunkeness in that area, also known as the 'tear trough' deformity.

The procedure is done using tiny injections with cannula and needles. There is hardly much downtime associated with the procedure, except for occassional bruising around the eye. The results are quite good and many of my patients are satisfied. This is usually repeated once yearly.

If the pigmentation of the skin is obvious, this can be treated with the Dual Yellow laser, which targets both pigmentation and blood vessels. There is no downtime with this treatment and it needs to be repeated between 6-8 times at monthly intervals.
