Can I go for extraction facials after undergoing subcision and fillers for acne scars?

Doctor's Answers 1

May I know why are you undergoing regular extraction facials? If you are having issue with comedone and acne, it might not the right time to do subcision and filler for your scar.

Extraction may not be a good solution for comedone control as well. Frequent extraction increases the risk of more scarring and may also cause inflammation or infection if not done properly. It will be important for you to have the proper treatment to control your comedone. It may be topical or oral medication, chemical peel or laser therapy. Extraction should be restricted to only those that are not responding to standard treatment.

That said, once the skin has fully recovered from the subcision and fillers, there is no reason why extraction cannot be done except for the above reasons mentioned. Likewise, you should not do other facial until the skin has recovered.

Have a great week ahead and stay happy!

Can severe acne scars be removed completely? (photo)

Hi there, Your photo is blurred but it looks like you have mainly rolling and box scars. Additionally, it does look quite tethered down as well. Personally, I would recommend a combination of treatments to release the scars and smoothen them. These would include subscision, laser skin resurfacing (such as the eCO2) +/- fillers. Do note that Fillers are not permanent solutions and lasts approximately 9 mths to a year. Redness is to be expected over the next few days from the treatments and interval between treatments are at least a month apart.

What is the ideal length of time between subcision and fractional CO2 laser treatment for acne scars?

To address your questions: 1. Generally subcision (I assume with some collagen stimulators) will lead to collagen stimulation, and this is also what CO2 laser aims to do. Some experts suggest that an interval of at least 4 – 6 weeks is kept between each collagen-stimulating treatment for optimal results. There is no real good answer – as social downtime and other considerations have to be taken into account by the doctor in recommending the treatments. My personal preference though is not to stretch the treatment too wide apart – 6 months does seem to me to be a little long.
