No, porcelain veneers cannot be easily removed.

Reason being, the procedure of getting veneers require the trimming some of your teeth. Trimming is an irreversible procedure. Furthermore, veneers are carefully bonded onto each specific teeth. Even if they were removed, your teeth and smile will look different. They do not go back to original form.

This is why I always encourage my patients to make sure that they truly understand what getting veneers entail before they embark on this journey.

We usually help our patients to perform an Aesthetic Trial Smile to help them visualise how they will very possibly look like after their final smile makover. However, not all patients are suitable for this trial smile. Please check with your dentist to find out more!

Can chewing habits correct an asymmetric jaw?

I fully agree with Dr Lee that chewing on one side will do little to help with the problem. In my experience as an aesthetic physician, it is as Dr Lee said, most of us have mild asymmetries, and almost every case of asymmetry has a mixture of BOTH bony and muscular elements. If the asymmetry is bothering you, I would suggest some botox and fillers first to correct it as a temporary measure. I would refer to my dental or orthodontic colleagues to correct teeth alignment and jaw surgery for better functional outcomes and long-lasting results.

Do braces change your facial profile?

You have asked a very interesting question and I am afraid the answer is yes and no! I will try to explain it as best I can. Braces CAN change profiles: Braces can change profiles only when the orthodontists and the patient plan to get it changed from the START of the treatment. A good example is when patients complain that when taking photographs, they notice that their side profile is sticking out and they have a very full smile (most patients use the terms, I look like a horse!) In this case, braces can help to retract the teeth to allow the patient to have a softer, gentler profile.
