How long after conceiving will I begin experiencing the first symptoms?

Doctor's Answer

Most women have a 4-weekly menstrual cycle or thereabouts.

When their period is delayed by one week, this is usually the time women start to test themselves to see if they could possibly be pregnant or not. For some women, this is also the earliest time (5 weeks from their last menses) that they can start experiencing some symptoms of early pregnancy which include:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Breast tenderness or swelling
  • Tiredness

This usually prompts most women to do a self pregnancy test on themselves if they did not initially perform one in the first place. These pregnancy symptoms may even get worse before spontaneously resolving on their own by 12 weeks.

Some "lucky" women do not experience any pregnancy symptoms at all except for discomfort from an ever-enlarging uterus.
