Oral antifungal agents are effective for the treatment of fungal infections. They are generally a safe treatment option, but the drugs should be used with caution in certain situations.
- Itraconazole
It should not be taken if a person has heart failure as it can exacerbate heart failure. It should be used with caution in individuals who have liver disease and in rare cases, can cause severe liver toxicity.
- Terbinafine
Similarly, it can rarely cause severe liver toxicity. It should also be used with caution in individuals who have underlying liver disease.
- Griseofulvin
It is contraindicated in individuals with liver failure and porphyria. It is also contraindicated in pregnancy.
For all the drugs, they are contraindicated if you have a known allergy to the drugs.
