What is the most cost-effective way, like with oral medications, I can remove hyperpigmentation, pores, and hormonal pimples?

Doctor's Answers 1

Thank you for the question.

It is important to get a proper diagnosis of the type of pigmentation as there are many causes of pigmentation. Some may be responsive to topical lightening agents while others may not.

For pigmented naevi or moles, they do not respond to topical or oral medication treatment. They will require surgical excision or laser treatment for removal.

For acne treatment, in milder cases, topical treatments with tretinoin cream, benzoyl peroxide or topical clindamycin creams may be sufficient to control it. However, if this is not well controlled on topical medication, oral medications like oral isotretinoin or antibiotics will be a good option.

Treatments are often individualized for the patient and it will be good to see your doctor or dermatologist for a proper diagnosis and discussion of the most suitable and cost-effective treatments for you.

There are many treatment options for acne. These include topical medications and oral medications. Treatments such as chemical peels and laser treatments can also help to treat acne. When prescribing acne treatment, your doctor will assess the type of acne, whether it is mild or severe, and if is predominantly comedonal (e. g. blackheads and whiteheads), or inflammatory (red papules and cysts) or a combination of both as different treatments may benefit different types acne to different extents.

Will my PIH (Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation) worsen if I miss a session of Pico laser treatment?

Hi, In general, PIH will gradually fade by itself over time and pigment laser treatment (which includes pico laser treatment) is strictly not essential. In fact, aggressive pigment laser treatment may in fact worsen the PIH. Hence worsening of pigmentation following pico laser treatment may reflect rebound PIH rather than from missing a session. It is best that you consult your attending doctor for further assessment and advice.
