Poorly controlled diabetes is a risk factor for poor wound healing, whether Type 1 or 2.

Type 1 Diabetics are insulin dependent and require insulin administration for sugar control. Should the sugar levels be well controlled (hba1c <7%) , T1DM is not a contraindication for acne scar treatments.

If poorly controlled, there is a higher risk of wound infection and poor healing and a overall poorer outcome.

For the types of acne scars seen in the photo, which are mainly boxcar and icepick scars, a variety of options of treatment are available. I would recommend fractional CO2 laser resurfacing, subcision and TCA CROSS.

I would recommend getting your diabetes under control before embarking on any aesthetic procedures.

Wishing you all the best in your scar treatment journey

How do I treat acne marks as compared to acne scars? (photo)

Hi, Acne marks (post-inflammatory erythema and hyperpigmentation) will gradually fade on their own over several weeks/months, so do not worry. It is important to prevent new acne from occurring (check out the Acne section for the various strategies to do so) as new acne will cause new marks to occur. Hope this helps.

What are the best methods to improve deep acne scars in dark ethnic skin? (photo)

Hi, All current treatment for acne scars will also work for dark ethnic skin although risk of PIH is higher if you opt for more aggressive/effective modalities which can give you greater clinical improvement. Fractional CO2 laser can be considered as a good first line treatment option. Effectiveness may be enhanced with more aggressive treatment parameters albeit at the expense of higher risk and degree of PIH. Alternatives to consider are fractional microneedle RF and fractional picosecond laser which are associated with lower risks of PIH.
