Why do I have dull pain around my wisdom tooth? (photo)

Doctor's Answer

Hi there,

Thank you for your enquiry, sorry to hear that you are having a toothache.

Based on your X-ray, you have 4 wisdom teeth, the 2 on the upper have erupted in a straight position, while the 2 on the bottom have insufficient space and have grown at a slanted angle otherwise known as impacted. It appears to me that the bottom right wisdom tooth also has a fairly large cavity which may be the cause of your dull pain. It is not uncommon for impacted teeth to develop cavities as it is in a position that makes it hard to clean resulting in a breeding ground for bacteria to feast and result in tooth decay.

It would be best for you to visit a dentist or oral maxillofacial surgeon as soon as possible to have your impacted wisdom teeth removed. After removal of the wisdom teeth, they can also check for the presence of any decay at the side of the second molars (the one in front of the wisdom teeth).

Hope this helps and hope you feel better soon.

Warm regards,

Dr Geraldine Lee
