Is it ok to go for a facial or squeeze blackheads out if I'm on certain medications like Oratane 10mg?

Doctor's Answers 1

Thank you for the question.

While on isotretinoin, the skin is more dry and sensitive. This makes it more easily irritated with certain products and procedures.

There are many different types of facial. While it may be possible to go for a facial, it is important that this should be a gentle facial that will not further aggravate or irritate the skin, which can sometimes lead to facial eczema or flare of acne.

Similarly, extraction of comedones or blackheads can be done while on isotretinoin, but this should be done properly and with proper technique to minimize residual scarring following the procedure.

How can I get rid of blackheads on my nose?

Hi, Blackheads on the nose are best treated with the regular application of topical tretinoin or differin. These topical medications unblock the pores and reduce the retention of sebum that causes the blackheads. It often takes 6-8 weeks before results are evident. Aternatively, regular physical removal (blackhead extraction by manual expression or suction extraction) by an aesthetician will also help. As blackheads will recur after initial successful removal, continued maintenance treatment is needed to maintain a blackhead-less complexion.

How can I identify a facial flat wart?

Plane warts usually appear on the skin as warty spots with a flat surface. Common areas where they can be found include the face and hands. Usually, several plane warts can be found in an area. These are caused by the human papilloma (HPV) virus and can be spread by direct skin-to-skin contact or it may spread within areas of injury, eg from shaving or after scratching an area. People with eczema or other skin rashes that result in a defective skin barrier are at increased risk of developing warts. People with a suppressed immune system are also at an increased risk.
