Can I continue to give my child vitamins/supplements while he is on medication?

Doctor's Answers 1

Herbs, vitamins, and other dietary supplements may augment or antagonize the actions of medications prescribed by your doctor. What research has shown is that in adults, St. John's wort is the supplement that has the most documented interactions with drugs. There could be serious consequences when the supplements interact with medications that prevent clotting, medications for heart conditions, medications for diabetes and medications for conditions related to HIV.

Several online resources allow you to check for interactions between drugs and supplements you are taking. Most analyze drug-drug interactions. Information on drug-supplement, drug-food, or supplement-supplement interactions is also available on several sites. The websites include the following:

Medscape.com

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center

What are some food and supplements (e.g. collagen, vitamins) to avoid after the first and subsequent sessions of CO2 laser treatment?

Hi, In short, no. Food and supplements generally do not affect healing after CO2 laser treatment in a healthy person with no underlying nutritional deficiency. Alcohol may cause flushing and make the post-laser redness more obvious. This may be disturbing to the patient so alcohol intake should be reduced. More important factors that may result in poorer healing after CO2 laser treatment that should be avoided include UV exposure, smoking, early use of make-up before the skin has fully healed, unnecessary touching of the affected skin and picking on the scabs.
