How can a nasoendoscopy help determine the cause of lumps at the back of my throat? (photo)

Doctor's Answers 1

From the picture provided, this appears to be "cobblestone" throat. Cobblestone throat refers to the lumps/bumps at the back of your throat.

They usually appear as a result of repeated irritation of the back of the throat from mucous from the nose or from acid reflux from the stomach. It is a common condition seen in patients with postnasal drip from sensitive nose (Rhinitis) or sinus infection (Sinusitis) as well as acid reflux from the stomach (Laryngopharyngeal reflux).

A nasoendoscopy may be recommended to assess your nasal cavity, drainage pathway of your sinuses and the area around the voice box region to determine the likely cause of your cobblestone throat.

Hope this helps and all the best.

What could be the cause of lumps on my throat and tonsils? (photo)

From the clinical history and the picture provided, you may have a cobblestone throat. However, it is best to see an ENT Specialist to have a full examination of your throat and head & neck region to rule out any worrisome lumps. A picture alone (especially in the throat region which is more difficult to visualize) may not be enough to clinch a diagnosis. Cobblestone throat are bumps at the back of your throat that formed after chronic irritation from postnasal drip. They are a result of enlarged lymphoid tissues in the throat.
