How can I even out the skin tone and colour on my face if some parts appear darker?

Doctor's Answers 1

It sounds like you are suffering from prolonged redness from skin sensitivity, due to previous skincare use.

This normally disappears with time, and should be improving already. If you think it is persistent over the years, you may want to consider irritation from the current skincare products you are using.

You should discuss with your doctor to analyse your current regime, and switch to something suitable if necessary. Hope this helps!

What are good recommended sunscreens in Singapore for UVA and UVB protection?

Hi Elaine! You should look out for products with SPF 50 and PA +++. The SPF is a relative measure of sun protection that the sunscreen provides against UVB. For example, if you normally take 20 minutes under direct sunlight to burn, SPF 50 sunblock will multiply that time by 50 for you to 1000 minutes. The number of +'s behind the PA rating determines the amount of protection against UVA. UVA protection is important to prevent pigmentation and photo-aging of the skin. There are some additional considerations you may want to make before choosing your ideal sunscreen.

Should I stop using steroid cream if my skin is red? (photo)

For the treatment of inflamed or eczematous skin, topical steroids is a good treatment option. Topical steroid creams, however, can cause thinning of the skin and skin atrophy and if this is present, then you may have to consider reducing the strength or stopping the application of steroids and consider using alternative non steroid creams, such as protopic ointment. It is important to avoid scratching and continue moisturizing the area. If the redness is persistent, you should see your doctor or dermatologist to re-evaluate your condition.
