How can I treat and improve newly formed ice pick scars? (photo)

Doctor's Answer

Sorry to hear that you have been left with some pitted depressed scars after recovering from your acne.

You are absolutely right in trying to treat your scars early, as recent studies have shown that early treatment of scars will often lead to a better cosmetic result.

In my opinion, you will respond well to fractional CO2 laser which is an effective laser to stimulate new collagen formation and improve the appearance of these scars. You will look pink for 5-7 days, with mild microcrusting, and you will usually notice improvement after a month.

Most patients will require 4-5 monthly sessions for 50-70% improvement. If scars are treated early, I have had some patients who respond in even 1-2 sessions. I sometimes combine this with subcision or punch excision for some of the deeper scars if laser by itself is suboptimal.

It is advisable to seek help from a doctor with experience in acne scar treatment for the best possible outcome. Hope this is helps!

Warmest regards
