How do I get rid of a raised scar on my knee? (photo)

Doctor's Answer

Beside the option of injecting steroid, the hypertrophied scar may also benefit from fractional CO2 laser to remodel the tissue, to improve on the texture and look. The colour of the skin is the one concern that is more difficult to recover. You may also want to know about the potential risks of both steroid injection (thinning of skin or a depression if injected wrongly) and Fractional CO2 laser (post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, redness, infection) before doing the treatment.

The number of sessions sessions need for either treatments may vary between individuals. In some situation, the treated hypertrophied scar over an area of frequent movement like you knee may grow back again, although it is less likely than a keloid scar.
