How do I get rid of spider veins and varicose veins? (photo)

Doctor's Answers 1

Unfortunately, creams and other topical medications tend to offer only mild improvements. You need a combination of Vascular Lasers and Sclerotherapy.

Spider Vein and varicose vein treatment options:

1. Vascular Lasers like Pulsed dye Lasers (eg. V Beam) and Copper bromide Lasers (e.g Dual Yellow/Pro Yellow) emit a specific wavelength of light that is absorbed by Haemoglobin in your blood vessels. This creates heat which causes narrowing and collapse of your prominent blood vessels.

Costs: >$400/area. Usually requires 2-4 sessions.

2. Sclerotherapy

For larger veins or veins that do not have adequate improvement using Vascular lasers, I suggest Sclerotherapy injections.

Cost: >$350/area. Usually requires 1-2 sessions.

Please consult a doctor for more details.

Who are some recommended doctors for spider vein treatment in Singapore?

Spider veins can be treated with sclerotherapy or laser treatment (ND Yag laser), if they are small enough. Sclerotherapy is typically done by vascular surgeons, dermatologists, plastic surgeons and occasionally, aesthetic doctors in Singapore. The cost of sclerotherapy in Singapore usually ranges from $500/session onwards. Hard to give you a good gauge, as it will also depend on the extent of spider veins that need treatment, the doctor’s fee for consultation, and ultrasound testing of your veins.

Is it necessary to do a comprehensive patch test for eczema in Singapore?

First things first – you can certainly tell your dermatologist that you are keen on a patch test the next time you visit him, especially with your recent flare up. He will tell you why it is or isn’t indicated for your situation. But even so, the test needs to be done on clear skin, meaning you need to get your eczema under control first before the patch test can be carried out. The reason why your doctor prescribed steroid cream is because that’s the correct treatment for your eczema.
