How does a dentist decide between dental crowns or veneers?

Doctor's Answer

The correct treatment for dull and uneven teeth may not involve crowns or veneers. Often, a less invasive approach such as orthodontics (to straighten teeth) and whitening can be very effective.

Crowns can improve the alignment and shade of teeth and at the same time help strengthen remaining tooth tissue, especially if there are large pre-existing fillings.

Veneers can also improve the alignment and shade but being only a thin facing, they will not be as strong as crowns so they can be prone to debonding and chipping.

It is recommended that you visit a dentist/dental specialist so that they can carry out a thorough examination of your dental condition and advise accordingly.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Steven Soo, Prosthodontist
