How does Ultherapy compare against fillers like Belotero for removing facial lines such as the nasal labial fold and tear trough?

Doctor's Answers 3

Firstly Ultherapy is the trademark procedure of a HIFU device called Ulthera.

There are a few other well known HIFU devices in Singapore like Ultraformer III and the Sygmalift but treatment using these devices generally are referred to as HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) for non-surgical skin tightening or non-surgical facelifts.

These treatments are used to stimulate collagen renewal as well as contraction of tissue at different layers of the skin by using handpieces of different penetration depths. The most common handpieces used are the 2mm, 3 mm and the 4-4.5 mm ones. The deepest one is actually targeted at the SMAS ( Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System ) which is like a fibromuscular layer. Treatment of this layer can induce a contraction of the fibromuscular layer thus simulating a lifting effect.

Belotero is the trade name of a range of HA (hyaluronic acid) dermal fillers that is HSA registered for sale in Singapore.

Nasolabial folds and tear trough are different in terms of aetiology and thus the treatments to correct them will be different.

Nasolabial folds can be due to loss of skin elasticity as well as a pseudo ptosis effect due to the loss of structural support due to loss of deep facial fat

There HIFU treatment will improve the nasolabial folds due to the skin lifting / tightening effect. Fillers can also be used to correct the volume loss in the Deep cheek fat thus improving the nasolabial folds. Of course, these two treatments can be used to complement each other.

With regards tear trough, this is actually alike a depression line in the under eye are that extend from the medial canthus of The Eye to the mid pupil line. As it is actually a depression due primarily to volume loss in the midface it is better corrected with the use of dermal HA fillers.

Hope this helps and hopefully, you will be able to find a doctor you are comfortable with to help you!

Hi,

Ultherapy and fillers serve complementary roles in improving the aging face.

Ultherapy lifts and tightens the skin, reduces skin laxity and improves the definition of the lower face contours. Skin texture is also improved from the dual-depth treatment protocol currently being used.

Fillers like Belotero plumb up the skin, fills up facial sunkeness including the tear troughs and nasolabial folds.

There are distinct and well as overlapping benefits of the 2 therapies. A full assessment by your preferred Aesthetic doctor will definitely help identify which of the 2 therapies will address your key aesthetic concerns at the present.

Hope this helps!

What to avoid after facial laser treatment?

Hi, Generally, after facial laser treatment, the skin may be a little sensitive and prone to developing pigmentation. Hence, after facial laser treatment, avoid harsh soaps and facial creams that may worsen the sensitivity. Such creams include alpha hydroxy acids and tretinoin. These creams may be used judiciously several weeks later after the skin normalizes. A gentle moisturizer used regularly will help the lasered skin recover faster. It is important to avoid UV exposure after facial laser treatment to minimize post-laser hyperpigmentation.

How much improvement can I expect after tear trough filler treatment?

Hi, Tear trough correction via filler placement is often challenging and best performed by an experienced injector. Depending on the severity of your tear trough and the amount of filler injected, an improvement of 50-75% may be achieved. As with all aesthetic procedures, a personal assessment is required before treatment and variability in clinical response is to be expected. Hope this helps!
