How effective is Soolantra cream for rosacea?

Doctor's Answers 2

Hi there, soolantra cream contains topical ivermectin 1%, which is reported to have anti-parasitic and anti-inflammatory properties. It is FDA approved for use in rosacea patients and is most useful for patients with pink inflammatory spots. It is applied once a day and most people tolerate it well. Occasionally, some patients may experience side effects such as irritation or allergies. Other treatments for rosacea include:

Topical treatments - other creams such as rozex gel, azelaic acid, and mirvaso gel have been used in selected patients with good effect. A good appropriate skincare routine can help too.

Oral medicines - oral antibiotics or oral isotretinoin are sometimes used in severe cases to control the inflammatory component of rosacea

Laser treatments - Vascular lasers can help shut down the active blood vessels and reduce flushing and erythema. I find the VBEAM or pulsed dye laser most effective in achieving this.

Rosacea is chronic and can be difficult to control, causing a lot of distress to patients. Do see a dermatologist for an early evaluation and effective management plan.

How can I go for aesthetic treatment without worsening my rosacea?

Depending on what type of skin concerns you would like address, the aesthetic treatments can still be tailored not to worsen your pre-existing rosacea. For instance there are effective laser treatments that not only improve acne prone skin and radiance, they can also be used to treat your rosacea at the same time. So I would recommend you to speak to an experienced doctor with rosacea to address your aesthetics concerns. Hope this helps! Cheers!

What will be the best treatment for Rosacea with persistent redness and blood vessel at nose and chin area?

I’d suggest for you to visit a dermatologist – they are the experts at managing skin conditions such as rosacea. Rosacea generally presents with redness and visible blood vessels like in your case, or it can also cause pustules (acne rosacea). If not managed well with the right treatment, long-standing rosacea can cause blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelid) and the formation of styes, as well as a large bulbous nose or chin. 1.
