How fast does teeth start to shift after completing orthodontic treatment?

Doctor's Answers 1

In general your teeth should not be shifting that quickly. The speed of teeth shifting / relapsing back into old position depends largely on the angulation of the tooth roots and the final bite position of your teeth. Taking an xray helps to check this out.

In short, it is unusual for teeth to shift in a week so dont worry too much about it unless you personally see significant shifting occuring. A suggestion would be to call your dental clinic to ask if you can get the retainer earlier though at times there may be an express service fee charge for expedited cases.

Hope this helps!

Are there any alternatives to filing down teeth during Invisalign treatment?

there are several ways to create spaces during your Invisalign treatment: 1) IPR (filing) 2) Buccal expansion (moving your back teeth outwards) 3) Proclination (moving your front teeth out) 4) Distalization (moving your back teeth backwards, usually into the space previously occupied by your wisdom tooth) Generally my practice is to create space through a combination of several techniques, which means that sometimes we can minimize the amount of filing needed.

When are power chains required to close gaps in teeth?

Powerchains are normally used when you are in a continuous strong steel archwire. These thick heavy wires can only be inserted once the initial levelling and aligning with soft flexible wires has been completed. Most orthodontic cases (including extraction cases) start with soft wires and move up into heavy wires progressively. Depending on the severity of your initial crowding, it may take a few months. If you had extractions done at the beginning, you may have to wait awhile before you can start closing the extraction spaces.
