How is excision for ice pick scars performed?

Doctor's Answer

Thank you for your question. Excision of ice pick scars can be performed by a doctor or dermatologist experienced in skin surgery. A quick numbing injection will numb the area completely. The ice pick area can then be cut out surgically and a few stitches applied to close the wound.

The stitches are typically removed after 1 week. Initially, the new scar will be very pink and obvious. Over 3-6 months this will usually fade to a fine line. The new scar can also be lasered after stitch removal for better healing in a shorter time. Hope this helps!

Best regards
