How long does the pain last for virgins?

Doctor's Answers 1

Hi, thanks for the question.

How long will the bleeding last after first penetration?

Normally it will last for a few hours after the first penetration due to trauma of the hymen, but it depends on the elasticity of the hymen.

In your case, if I’m not mistaken, you have been bleeding for the past 2 days but you had sex a week ago. Usually this bleeding isn’t causing by the broken hymen.

Bleeding and pain is normal after first penetration

The pain should be reduced by the third time you have sexual activity.

Withdrawal method and pregnancy

There are a lot of methods to prevent unwanted pregnancy. The method which you used (the "pull out" method) is less reliable. Statistics says the effectiveness of this particular method is around 73% when it is properly performed.

However, I will suggest for you to use condoms everytime you have sex for your own protection, because it can prevent you from sexual transmitted disease too. Additionally, don’t forget to track your period if you’re sexually active.

Which doctor should you see if you are still experiencing bleeding problems

General Practitioners can help you investigate the cause behind your pain and bleeding.

If the bleeding is severe (measured by how many times you have to change your pads/tampons a day) and it lasts more than a week, you should see a Gynaecologist.

If you want to take a pregnancy test on your own, I'd suggest for you to do it at least 2 weeks after you had unprotected sex.

How can I give birth naturally if I am overweight?

In general, there are a few considerations that we will look at for natural birth in overweight mothers: 1. Stage of your pregnancy 2. Size of your baby 3. Position of your baby 4. Presence of existing medical conditions or complications such as diabetes, position of your placenta etc. Of course, if you are in the pre-pregnancy stage and planning for a child with the goal of delivering naturally, then it is highly advisable to kick-start a weight loss programme.

How long should I wait after stopping contraceptive pills before trying to get pregnant?

You can start trying to conceive as soon as you stop taking the oral contraceptive pills. There is no need to wait or delay if that is your intention. The fact that you need to consume the oral contraceptive pills on a daily basis in order for it to work means that these pills only work for that day that you are taking them. If you stop or forget to take the oral contraceptive pills then there is a possibility of getting pregnant which accounts for oral contraceptive pill failure. The hormonal effects of the oral contraceptive pill therefore only last for 1 day in your body.
