How many subcision sessions with fillers are necessary to see results compared to undergoing subcision without fillers?

Doctor's Answers 1

Hi,

Subcision releases the underlying scar tissue and stimulates new collagen formation from wound healing. Hence results will be seen even after a single session although results are delayed for several months until the new collagen is formed. Repeat subcisions done judiciously will add to the results seen.

Fillers used in conjunction with subcision results in immediate filling-in and lifting from the injected filler substance while the new collagen is being formed from the subcision. Hence immediate results are apparent even after the first session of combination treatment. Recognize that as the filler substance injected under the scar gradually disappears, only the new permanent collagen due to the subcision remains.

Also, while subcision alone may work well with a variety of atrophic acne scars such as rolling and boxcar type scars, a combination of subcision with filler is best suited mainly for rolling scars.

A thorough assessment of your acne scars by your preferred aesthetic doctor will help decide on your suitability for the various acne scar treatments available.

Hope this helps!

What is the best treatment for a pitted chicken pox scar on the tip of my nose between subcision, fillers and CO2 lasers? (photo)

Hi,Atrophic scars on the tip of the nose (from acne or chicken pox) is most challenging to treat due to the median location and convex surface of the nose which exacerbates the cosmetic appearance of the scar. The highly sebaceous nature of the nose makes filler and subcision non-ideal. In my opinion, Fractional CO2 laser therefore offers the best benefit:risk ratio of the 3 treatment modalities. Hope this helps!

How does Dermapen work for treating deep acne scars, and can it be combined with subcision?

Hi, The key principle of acne scar treatment is “controlled injury” to the dermis where the acne scar tissue is located. This controlled injury to the dermis allows for subsequent healing to occur, laying down new and more organized collagen tissue, and resulting in improvement in the appearance of acne scars. The various techniques for inducing controlled injury to the skin includes: Energy-based e. g. Fractional lasering, fractional RF Mechanical e. g. scar revision surgery, subcision, microneedling Chemical e. g.
