How much do braces cost in Singapore?

Doctor's Answers 2

Dentists in Singapore practice in different geographic areas, serving a diverse population. Some clinics may refer patients who need braces to orthodontists, who have specialist training in braces. Other clinics may prefer to manage all aspects of general dentistry, including orthodontics.

The cost of fixed braces treatment thus reflects these factors.

Seeing an orthodontist may be suitable for more complex cases (such as those needing jaw surgery) and this will be reflected in your treatment fees. Most patients would seek the recommendation of their general dentist for a specialist referral, if necessary.

Most clinics will have an instalment payment plan for braces. There is usually a deposit required before starting treatment, and this varies. Unfortunately, Medisave cannot be used for orthodontic treatment.

The most important thing is to find a dentist that you trust, who understands your treatment concerns, and has a treatment fee that you feel is right for you. Treatment fees reflect the time, effort and expertise spent in solving your case. You may not be getting true value for money by going for the cheapest option available.

Glad to see that you are interested in braces! In general there are 3 categories of braces and I am going to rank them in terms of cost ( low - high )

1. Traditional metal braces

2. Ceramic braces

3. Clear aligners such as Invisalign

Ceramic braces and Clear aligners are somewhat comparable in price but it depends where you go. In general, clear aligner treatments and ceramic braces cost more because they are higher in material costs.

Why would anyone want to pay more for Invisalign vs traditional braces if they do the same job?

- Clear aligners are barely visible, making them suitable for young working adults

- Removable vs fixed

- Hygienic and cleansible

- Comfort

Overall treatment prices mainly depend on

- Type of Braces

- Time: The more complex the misalignment of teeth, the longer the treatment time

- Clinic location

- GP or Specialist

Installment plans are available at most clinics Island wide but the type of arrangement ie 6/12/24 months or how much the initial deposit is depends on clinic policies.

Medisave claims are only applicable to dental surgical procedures such as dental implants and wisdom tooth surgery. So for braces, it is not claimable.

Straightening your teeth is a full time commitment for both the patient and the dentist because it is considered a long term treatment plan. As such, feel free to inquire further should you decide to pursue the journey to straight teeth!
