How much does Isotretinoin cost in Singapore, and what is the duration for one course of Isotretinoin?

Doctor's Answers 2

The price of Isotretinoin in Singapore for 10mg (daily dose for 1 month) can range from $ 65 - 80 for generic Isotretinoin.

The cost can be $100 - $130 for branded Isotretinoin. As such, the price range for Isotretinoin in Singapore can be significant.

Based on personal anedotal experience, I am quite happy to use Acnotin (generic Isotretinoin) as patients who have taken the branded Isotretinoin in my clinic have expressed a sensation of "feeling unwell" or general fatigue that they didn't feel on Acnotin.

Duration of treatment for Isotretinoin: this varies based on your condition. It can range from 6 - 12 months, and varies based on your dosage taken, as well as whether you can tolerate the side effects. There are indeed many variables - I would suggest you consult your doctor to discuss further.

Hi,

The cost depends on whether you choose generics or branded isotretinoin. I have found that there are slightly better results when using the brands that are a little bit more expensive. The duration is based on your weight and it is a cumulative lifetime dose. That means if you decide to stop your medication midway, you continue where you left off when you restart your medication.

On average, my patients are on the tablet for about 9 months.

Acne prone skin occurs when the oil glands over-react to normal stimulli. I advise a few cardinal rules to follow before starting them on isotretinoin.

Your diet can influence how much your acne flares up. Caffeine (in coffee and tea) stimulates your oil glands. The more caffeine you take, the worse your flare-ups will be.

Exposure to extreme hot or cold environments means that blood flow to the skin increases. This will also cause your acne to flare up.

Taking excessively hot or spicy food or drinking alcohol, again, increases blood flow to the skin and can lead to flare ups.

Smoking impairs your healing and prolongs your recovery time post-acne flare-up.

Should I request for a higher dose of Isotretinoin if I am on a low dose regime?

Pertaining to your isotretinoin dose, your dermatologist has done absolutely the right thing. I wouldn’t consider 30 mg low by any means. 10 – 15 mg is what’s normally considered to be in the “low range”. Even if you “shopped” around for a different doctor, I don’t think their dosage advice would differ too much from your dermatologist. Besides, it’s still relatively early days. 2 months in, and you are responding and improving. If I were you, I’d stick, rather than twist with the dose.

How should I prevent Post-Accutane relapse, and advise on long term maintenance isotretinoin dose?

Hi S – 6 years is a long time to be on a course of isotretinoin, unless you were specifically prescribed a low dose, long term “maintenance” isotretinoin regime by your doctor. If you’ve been compliant to the dosage regime (at 120 mg/kg), 85% of patients only need one course to achieve complete remission of acne – this would take 4 – 6 months of treatment, depending on the dose administered. Relapse rates in patients after treatment with oral isotretinoin vary between 10% and 60%.
