How much does Medisave cover for dental implants?

Doctor's Answer

Hi there, Thank you for your email. Medisave is a national medical savings scheme setup by the Government of Singapore to help subside surgical treatment for Singaporeans and Permanent Resident. It helps you meet future personal or immediate family's hospitalisation, day surgery and certain outpatient expenses. In terms of dental implants, you are allowed to use up to $950 of Medisave per implant.

This is only for the surgical phase where the dental implant is placed. You will not be able to use Medisave for the crown of the dental implant. In addition you will be able to claim up to $300 using Medisave for items such as doctor's examination charges, consumables required for the surgery, medication and xrays.

For certain cases, the doctor may require the use of bone grafts or procedures such as sinus lifts in order to create a better foundation for the dental implants. Medisave currently allows a single surgical procedure to be done on a single tooth site. For example this means that if you need a bone graft for an implant on the same day, you can only claim either the Medisave component for either the bone graft or the implant - not for both.

Medisave is your money. Remember that you need to know all costs before embarking on any surgical treatment. In addition most dentists will prepare a treatment plan before commencement of any dental implant work so there is clarity on all costs. Hope this helps sincerely Dr Samintharaj Kumar
