How often do I have to go for follow-up visits for braces treatment and Invisalign?

Doctor's Answers 1

Generally, for braces, we want to see them at an interval of 4-6 weeks, a maximum of 8 weeks. Invisalign we will keep about 6 to 8 weeks, you don’t need to see the dentist as often compared to having braces.

What are the main differences and considerations for someone undergoing braces in her 40s versus 20s?

Thank you for your question. There is a saying that goes 40s are the new 20s, people are embracing their age and living life without apologies. However, these are some of the differences I see in my practice that may differ between the 2 age groups. Gum support. Generally speaking, the older one gets, the higher the risk of gum disease and reduced periodontal support. The cause of gum disease is multifactorial with plaque bacteria being one of the main culprits, hence an older individual may be more at risk as the bacteria has had a longer time to fester.

For a flat midface, what are the differences in outcomes if I had braces with jaw surgery versus without jaw surgery? (photo)

Thank you for your question. Braces treatment is only able to influence your teeth position, while jaw surgery is able to influence your jaw position. You may refer to this article that I had written previously about jaw surgery: What is Jaw Surgery And Who Needs It? Here's What You Should Know If your concern is for a flat midface, braces treatment will not be able to change that. It is able to adjust the teeth position to fit your jaw position and if your jaw position is only mildly malaligned you would still be able to get a good dental outcome with no change in the facial structures.
