How to get rid of mild-moderate acne scars? (photo)

Doctor's Answers 1

Hi,

You have a combination of shallow rolling and box car acne scars. These can be improved and smoothened to a large extent - improvement by a few grades on the acne severity score.

I begin acne scar treatments start with diagnosis of your scar type, skin type and ability to handle down-time (recovery time).

The most suitable treatments to give you good results are:

1. Subcision with collagen stimulating fillers - To release tethered (held down) scars and to stimulate collagen production

2. Fractional Laser resurfacing (eg CO2 fractional lasers like Edge Fractional CO2 lasers)

3. TCA Cross chemical peel.

4. RF micro-needling (eg Infini - if you are looking for a very short downtime option - downtime of 1 day)

Several treatment sessions are required (4-6 sessions) and I use a combination of acne scar treatments in each session to give faster results.

Each of these treatments works synergistically to give you best results.

I suggest a face to face consult with a doctor who focuses on acne scars treatment for an accurate treatment plan.

Hope this helps!

Warmest regards,

Dr Justin Boey

How effective are the various types of chemical peels for acne scars?

Medical-grade Chemical Peels are highly effective treatments for Acne Scars. It is proven that TCA Cross 70% alone can give you good to excellent improvement (> 50% improvement) of atrophic acne scars, especially severe boxcar scars. I routinely perform TCA Cross for ice pick scars and deep box acne scars. TCA Cross, which stands for Trichloroacetic acid, is a medium to deep chemical peel. There is a wide range of concentrations of TCA cross (from 35% to 100%). I usually combine this with subcision, Lasers and Rejuran injections for enhanced results in treating ice-pick scars.

How much improvement can I expect after subcision for my acne scars? (photo)

Acne leave behind mainly ice-pick or box-car scars. The base of each scar is held down by connective scar tissue. My preferred method is to use a combination of laser treatment and Rejuran Injections to improve the overall texture of the skin. The PicoWay has an attachment called the RESOLVE handpiece. When the laser enters the skin, it creates areas of cavitation under the skin called Laser Induced Optical Breakdowns. This helps to disrupt the connective tissue holding the base of the scar down.
